Big Companies Think Local at TechUG for Leeds Digital Festival

26/04/2016
TechUG will celebrate a decade of giving back to Yorkshire’s IT pro community this week with a full day, conference style event at the TechUG Leeds Meetup - which forms part of Leeds Digital Festival.

A team from local employer Sky Betting & Gaming are also on board to run the Devops track in order to share real-world experience of how they approach a range of technology challenges.

‘For large organisations, it is vitally important at a grass roots level to create this sort of feedback loop. The more companies can get involved with local meetups and talk about their journeys, problems, or successes with technology, the more we can all learn together’ said TechUG President, Gav Brining.

Brining, who is the CIO for American Investment Bank, KPG Group went onto say ‘This also plays an important role in making you attractive as an organisation that IT Pro’s aspire to work for. After all, who wants to work for an organisation that has a ‘we’ve always done it that way’ mindset?’

Rob Tuley, Head of Engineering in Sky Bet’s Gaming Tribe, said ‘Leeds Digital Festival is helping us to raise the profile of the tech sector here in the city, we have a tonne of meet ups, networks and socials that are proving very attractive for our people and it’s great to be involved with one of the first, TechUG.’

The TechUG Leeds meetup takes place on the 28th April 2016. Volunteers are also sought to help run local TechUG events in support of the local community of technologists who are looking to learn something new.

TechUG Leeds takes place on Thursday 28th April at the Doubletree by Hilton, Leeds City Centre. The event is free to attend, starts at 9am and continues into the evening with complementary networking drinks.
